Western Samoa offers some of the best sightseeing opportunities in the South Pacific with lots of waterfalls, coastal views, unusual sites like lava fields as well as many beautiful beach locations with traditional thatch beach bungalow accommodation. Western Samoa has a thriving traditional culture and travelling around the islands is amongst the most affordable in the South Pacific. American Samoa is quite different with its culture now heavily influenced by American materialism and the islands are quite expensive to travel around. However, the islands have some fantastic National Parks and coastal scenery but little tourist infrastructure making it a place for intrepid travellers only. Of the three main large islands, all are small enough to be explored on a day tour, but to experience the magnificent Samoan way of life and get out on some of the coastal walks, at least two weeks is recommended to visit them all.
